In 2005, the Eastern Shawnee Tribe with backing from various casino interests filed suit to reclaim their ancestral Ohio homelands despite the Treaty of Greenland whereby the Shawnee and other tribes ceded Ohio to the United States in 1795. The sole purpose of the lawsuit was to gain land to build casinos on. The lawsuit petered out when Ohio legalized casino gambling to close a significant deficit in the State’s budget. It was dismissed with prejudice in 2007. No exception for the case is required.
