Overview

Witnesses

Maine does not require witnesses to signatures on any Deeds or Mortgages although most forms include a place for them. It is customary, but not required to have at least one witness to signatures on a Mortgage. Most documents require an acknowledgment by a public official such as a notary public in order to be permitted to be recorded.
