Overview
Missouri allows for the creation of Life Estates in real property. It follows the common law rules regarding life estates followed in other states.

The only statute pertaining directly to the creation of Life Estates in Missouri is one that reverses the common law rule that the failure to include the words "heirs" in a conveyance creates only a life estate and not a grant in fee simple. https://law.justia.com/codes/missouri/2011/titlexxix/chapter442/section442460/ MO Rev Stat § 442.460].
All other rules regarding life estates are found in case law.
Language
There is no set language to create a life estate, but a grant "to grantee for his/her life" is considered to create a life estate. A life estate per autrie vie is also possible.
