Overview

In general, non-U.S. citizens and entities of foreign countries are permitted to buy, own, and sell real estate in Missouri. MO Rev Stat § 442.560. They are prohibited from owning agricultural land as defined in MO Rev Stat § 442.566 which is basically anything large than five (5) acres capable of supporting agricultural use.

There is an exception to this prohibition carved out for counties located adjacent to Oklahoma. MO Rev Stat § 442.560 and MO Rev Stat § 442.571. There is also an exception if the land in question can be used for immediate or potential use for non-farming purposes. MO Rev Stat § 442.591. There is a reporting requirement for any ownership of agricultural lands by non-U.S. citizens or entities. MO Rev Stat § 442.592.
