Overview
"Abstracters are not regulated in Maine. In almost all real estate closings in Maine, the title is examined by an attorney, title insurance agent, or title insurance company. Since abstractors are not regulated, when their services are relied on by an attorney, title insurance agent, or title insurance company, their work should be supervised." ALTA Title Insurance Regulatory Survey - Maine (updated 11-7-2013).
