Bankruptcy

See Bankruptcy in Maine.

Judgement Execution

Maine does offer exemption on real property from execution of civil money judgments that attach to the primary residence of the debtor. The actual rules and exceptions are somewhat complicated and require a thorough review of the statute. See | 14 MRSA 4422. If a property subject to an attachment protected by the exemption is sold, the seller must use the proceeds of sale to buy a new primary residence within six (6) months of the date of sale to maintain the exemption for the property.
